Does Cigna Care?

The family of Nataline Sarkisyan filed a lawsuit against the Cigna health insurance company.  You may recall the heart wrenching newspaper and TV news  stories about a year ago about Cigna denying the 17 year old Los Angeles teenager a life-saving liver transplant.  Cigna outrageously claimed that the procedure was experimental and continually denied her claim, even though the medical experts at UCLA Medical Center's Mattel Children's Hospital felt the transplant would be successful and beneficial to the young girl.

It was only after rallies were held outside Cigna's Los Angeles office, and the glare of publicity, that Cigna relented and approved the transplant - just hours before she died.

The important thing to remember is just because an insurance conglomerate denies or belittles your claim you still can appeal their decision.  It doesn't take the glare of publicity as it did in Nataline Sarkisyan's case.  You need to contact a qualified attorney who specializes in insurance litigation.  One would think medical and health insurance companies would be humanitarian and want to help restore their customers to health.  Sadly this is not the case.

I salute Nataline Sarkisyan's family for fighting Cigna both when she was alive, and now after her untimely death.  I wish them success in their lawsuit.  Nataline would be only 18 years old today if she had lived.  It is unfortunate that Cigna only truly cared when they got hit with bad publicity.
